In Moscow, he was a photojournalist. In New York he is a retiree. But David Fastovsky was a runner in both places, and in 2004, he realized one of his most cherished dreams when he ran in and completed the New York City Marathon.

Mr. Fastovsky ran the famous course in six hours, 44 minutes and 21 seconds. Although he has competed in many marathons, Mr. Fastovsky was not sure he could finish this year’s race.
“It was hard because I didn’t train very much,” he said. “I didn’t feel too good at the end, but I finished.”

Mr. Fastovsky and his wife moved into The Hamilton in February 2004.
“We came to America from Russia in 1991 and we lived in Brooklyn and then in Queens,” he said. “Forest Hills was very nice but too expensive. We looked at many buildings and we waited six years for this place. It’s wonderful here. It’s a gift from God.”

The Fastovskys received another wonderful gift on December 1, 2004 when their first great-grandchild was born.
“We have a big family,” Mr. Fastovsky said. “We have two daughters and six grandchildren and now a great-grandchild.
“God bless America. We are so happy here.” |
