Volunteer Appreciation Day*

* Each year, Project FIND honors its senior volunteers with a special dinner/dance at the Swan Club in Roslyn Harbor. More than 100 seniors are volunteers with Project FIND.

Our annual Volunteer Appreciation Day, Sept. 21, was filled with joyful anticipation for this event, held at the Swan Club. We enjoyed the lush landscaped gardens, which are maintained with seasonal flowers.

Upon arrival, we were escorted to a decorated garden patio and invited to sit at tables. A most sumptuous variety of hors d’oeuvres, including fruits and melons, cubes of cheese, crackers and assorted vegetables, was spread out on several long tables. A fruit cup was the first offering of dinner. Our menu consisted of choices of filet mignon, rosemary chicken or fresh filet of sole with cooked vegetables. Waiters circled around the tables offering a variety of delicacies. A rich dessert with tea or coffee completed our dinner.

For entertainment – Mamma mia! How Maria could belt out popular songs! That’s Amore. That’s for sure! And the band played on and on during the entire festival with zoom and much hoop de dupe!

We had a variety of styles of dancing from line dancing, circle dancing, ballroom dancing and solo dancing to show our dancing skills. Our Super Woman, Barbara Blackman, sure danced up a storm with partners. Most Popular Donald Perry of Hargrave danced, obliging many eager partners. Eve Moravac displayed her skill in ballroom dancing. She was outstanding once again. And this writer – Ruth Eichen – performed the once upon a time dance craze the Charleston to the delight of all.

Our volunteers are no come lately back burners. Oh no! They are front liners with a hip, hip hooray!

Certificates of Appreciation were awarded by each Center Director, and we left with a very pleasant memory of volunteer Appreciation Day.
