In Remembrance

It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of three staff members in the last year.  We were fortunate to have known and worked with Orlando, Chris and Nelson. They were the backbone of Project FIND, representing the true spirit of our mission. Their devotion to Project FIND and its seniors will always be remembered and treasured.

Orlando Valencia (Born in 1941) was a cherished Project FIND volunteer and staff member for ten years serving as the Hamilton Annex Front Desk Receptionist. Always ready and willing to lend a hand, he was the first friendly face to welcome members into the site. Orlando could always be counted on for a smile while going above and beyond for center attendees. Orlando would often be seen at the holiday gatherings taking in the music and fun atmosphere. We are thankful to have known and worked with Orlando who will always be remembered for the cheerfulness and warmth he displayed. He is very deeply missed.

Chris Murray (Born in 1947) wore many hats at Project FIND working as a security guard at Hargrave House where he lived, along with serving as President of the Hargrave Tenant Association. Prior to his affiliation with our organization, Chris was employed in the nonprofit industry in a variety of social service positions.  Described time and again as a "great advocate" for the residents of the Hargrave and a "dear friend and neighbor," it's clear Chris's life had a great impact on those who knew him.  We will always remember his commitment to the organization and are grateful for his nine years with us.

Nelson Garcia (Born in 1946) is best described as friendly, kind, hardworking, dependable and a "good man." Nelson was not only a Woodstock tenant but a beloved Project FIND staff member serving for 16 years as a porter in the Maintenance Department. Always available in the event of emergencies at the building, Nelson earned a reputation as a very dedicated employee and friend to many. Born in the Dominican Republic, Nelson was the father to four children and a devoted grandfather. He is very sorely missed.
