Cecil Story

Cecil at The Woodstock Hotel

“Project FIND helped me see that my past doesn’t define me.”

After incarceration, addiction, and homelessness, Cecil found stability, recovery, and a new beginning through Project FIND.

As a young man, I was drawn to what looked like success flashy clothes, fast money, and people who seemed powerful. Wanting to fit in, I followed the wrong crowd without understanding the cost. That path eventually led me to prison.

While incarcerated, something shifted in me. In the quiet, I began reading and writing. For the first time, I imagined a different future one where I could use my voice and become a writer.

When I was released, I thought life would automatically get better. Instead, I struggled with low self-esteem and fell into addiction. I lost my housing, my friendships, and eventually became homeless.

Everything began to change when I connected with Project FIND. Through consistent social work support, I started rebuilding my confidence and committing to recovery.

With guidance and encouragement, I secured stable housing at The Woodstock Hotel. From there, I immersed myself in computer classes, activities, and a healthier community of peers.

Today, I’m sober, housed, and hopeful. I’m writing again. I feel clear-minded and proud of the progress I’ve made.

Project FIND helped me see that my past doesn’t define me. They gave me the support to start over.

Because of supporters like you, people like me get a real second chance.
