Obituary for Alexander Moore

We are sad to report that long time Project FIND resident Alexander “Al” Moore of Deltaville passed away on January 28, 2013 in Virginia  -- his friends and caregivers there were in contact with us recently to share the sad news.

Alexander “Al” Moore of Deltaville passed away on January 28, 2013 at Rappahannock General Hospital from cancer-related complications. He was born on December 14, 1935 in Brooklyn, N.Y., the son of Matilda and Alexander Bettiz Moore, who predeceased him at a very early age.

Al grew up in the Catholic orphanages of New York City and, as a brainy teenager, joined the U.S. Air Force in 1958. As a member of SAC (Strategic Air Command), his assignments took him to Viet Nam and other parts of the world—primarily as a missile systems analyst and ballistic analyst technician. He was attached to the 556th Strategic Missile Squad when he left the service in 1963.

As a civilian, Alexander worked at NASA with the early manned-space program, operated two technology companies, and worked as an electronics communications specialist for Nortel Networks before retiring in 1996.

After retiring, Alexander continued to study, teach and advise on all things technical. He worked with Project FIND in New York City teaching computer skills at senior centers; in Augusta, Maine, repairing computer systems; and in Van Buren, Maine, rehabbing an old homestead.

His remains will be inurned as per his request at the Veterans National Cemetery at Quantico.
