Ann deVere and SPARC: Emily Ruth Hazel visiting artist

Emily_Ruth_Hazel_headshot.jpgSeniorPlaces:SeniorMoments with SPARC 2014 Artist-in-Residence Ann deVere is hosting a Guest Artist presentation with award winning poet and writer Emily Ruth Hazel on Tuesday, April 22, 2014.

Emily Ruth Hazel is a New York City-based poet and writer who is passionate about making poetry accessible to a diverse audience. Twice she has been awarded a Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Poetry Prize in a national competition for emerging poets. Her first collection of poetry, Body & Soul (Finishing Line Press), was a finalist in the New Women’s Voices competition. BODY___SOUL_by_Emily_Ruth_Hazel_(Finishing_Line_Press).jpgHer work has also appeared in Magnolia: A Journal of Women’s Socially Engaged Literature, Texas Poetry Calendar 2014 (Dos Gatos Press), Kindred, The Mochila Review, Deep Waters (Outrider Press), and Mercury Retrograde (Kattywompus Press), among other publications. Selected as a 2013 Resident Artist by Spark and Echo Arts, her commissioned Kindred_-_Harvest_Issue_(No_4)_(Anchor___Plume_Press).jpgpoems (audio and text) are featured at sparkandecho.org. Emily performs at numerous events and enjoys cross-pollinating with artists of many disciplines. She has collaborated with trombonist and composer James Hall on several projects and performances, most recently on the album "Soon We Will Not Be Here" by James Hall Thousand Rooms Quartet, a CD featuring poems transformed into songs.
